What was the challenge or problem to solve?

A client needed to know the exact composition of the particles emitted during a plastic pyrolysis process. This process is crucial for selecting the appropriate type of filter to retain the gases and particles released during the process.

The challenge faced by the Forensic Engineering team at INFINITIA was considerable for several reasons. First, there was a limited amount of sample available, with unusual complexity, which required precise adaptation of our tests to meet the client’s study requirements. Additionally, the heterogeneity of the filter made the reproducibility of the analyses difficult, further complicating the study. These combined factors presented a challenging scenario for accurately determining the nature of the involved particles.

The project’s goal was clear: to provide our client with a detailed and reliable insight into which type of filter they should use to maximize the efficiency and sustainability of their gas filtration system.

Characterization of Particles Generated During a Plastic Pyrolysis Process How was it addressed or what was the solution?

To address this challenge, the process was structured into several key stages, managed by the INFINITIA team. We began with the reception of the particles, followed by an exhaustive search for relevant information and an analysis of industry trends using specialized databases and a review of technical literature.

Subsequently, analyses were conducted using specialized techniques and laboratory equipment, complemented by specialized software to ensure the accuracy of the obtained data. This phase was critical for correctly interpreting the data and reaching clear conclusions about the particle composition.

Finally, we prepared and presented the results in a clear and comprehensible manner. The success of this project lay in INFINITIA’s ability to adapt its methods and techniques to the specific needs of the study, resulting in the precise identification of the nature of the particles emitted during the plastic pyrolysis. This information has been crucial for our client to make informed decisions regarding the most effective filters for their use.
